At first I thought that it was too basic form me (I am a licensed contractor), but upon reading a few chapters I learned several things and was impressed with the illustrations, photos and descriptions. The detail descriptions on the step-by-step on how to build something are excellent! This is a nicely bound book that is very good book for beginners up to pros, although not durable enough for field use.

Bought this book as a refresher/reference manual in preparation for State Licensing as a building contractor. This is the most comprehensive test out of the contractor license exams that my state has to offer. You have to be very well rounded in your construction knowledge. This book references and teaches straight from the IRC with plenty of illustrations. Well organized. I agree, there was a bunch of junk I skipped (things like how to manage a business, calculate materials, schedule jobs) but that's only because I've already got a ton of experience in those areas. For somebody who doesn't, and would like references, the book offers it. It's very much like a school book with questions and tips. Also, it seems you can go online for additional material or reinforcement lessons. I never did because I'm not the study type. However, I do use this book as a reference in addition to my building codes book as a lot of times, it's easier to find the information.
