This book makes a significant contribution to the field. It helps the reader understand what it takes to yield desirable results - attractive and usable products. It introduces visual design in a way that executives and developers both can understand and use to talk about and evaluate design. Because it doesn't get bogged down in roles and buzzwords, it's silo-breaking approach enables the outcomes to be the emphasis. I especially appreciated the examples because they go into detail while the checklist-style guidelines in each chapter help keep the big picture in mind. The checklists are not a recipe - the authors make that clear - but come in handy when trying to communicate with my designer, developer and clients about design issues. Definitely worth the purchase - it warrants a important place on the professional bookshelf.

Visual Usability is a great addition to the field of usability. In clear, concise, and easy-to-understand language, supplemented by real-life examples, the authors make the case for three key design principals: Consistency, Hierarchy, and Personality. A wonderful resource for developers, designers, and the layman alike, this book is an easy read and will be an oft-used reference in the future.
