I've used Publisher for years in my business to produce a 32 page monthly magazine and the latest version, 2010, has some different features I wanted to learn how to use. I bought the 'COMPLETE' version assuming I'd learn more than the Introductory, or basic, basic version. Mind you, the book is well illustrated, but that's about all I can applaude it for. The book spends time teaching how to produce a brochure, a newsletter, a flyer, a poster or other documents in great basic detail. The problem is I bought the book to explain how to use the programs features and get more out of those features. What I didn't want was to spend money to get a writing lesson on how to construct the text message of a document which has nothing to do with the Publisher program.
The redundancy was the detail of starting the program, choosing a template, choosing a font, choosing a color scheme and quitting the program 4 or 5 times in each sub-section, filling lots of pages with the same information over and over through many chapters. At one point it goes into great detail on how to use Word to edit text, and goes into 1/2 page detail of how to open, then another 1/2 page to close Word, which is much the same as all office products.
The discussion on how to use graphics was so minimal it is sad. Again the emphasis was more on the selection, grab a corner sizing, of graphics and color. There is hardly any information in the entire book that teaches how to work with linked graphics which can be very important when using Publisher, which does link very well. It does very little to teach how to use transparent graphics and there is virtually nothing given concerning layers and how to use them.
