Photoshop CS5 Bible Free Download
Photoshop CS5 BibleAs a reference source, this book is very detailed. As a learning source this book lacks substance. Most people who would buy this book are probably an experienced photographer or graphic designer. So it is hard for me to fathom why this book was printed with black and white sample images that are printed so poorly that many are just black squares with no detail remaining.
There is a web site available that allows you to download a subset of the images in color, but whole chapters of images are omitted, including the very complex chapters on 3D graphic editing. Almost no image in these chapters are viewable.
If you buy the Photoshop CS5 Bible, be prepared for a useful but limited reference guide. Or better yet, wait for a more mature book to be made available.

The title is misleading for people who are used to Deke McClelland's books. Although this book covers all the features of photoshop, it's more written like a technical specification rather than a reference, and it's certainly not a good study book. Every tool starts by explaining all the options and settings, instead of starting basic features and zooming in from there. For a beginner, this approach is absolutely not suitable. For advanced users, the book is too chaotic. For someone who judges quality by number of pages, this is the book to buy. Every-one else, there must be better books out there. I am not a fan of Kelby's humor, but his structure and explanations in most of his books are far better than this book. Haven't seen his CS5 book yet, but I would bet it must be a better buy than this one.
