Chapter 3: Go establishes how to implement a city plan in practice. It deals with the practicalities of working as an enterprise architect and is called the "running" step.
The common thread through all aspects of the enterprise architect's work is the architect's mastery of a number of tools, such as business models, process models, information models, and matrices. We address how to initiate the architecture process within the organization in such a way that the overarching enterprise architecture and architecture-driven approach can be applied methodically and gradually improved.

As part of our big data strategy, we are implementing an enterprise architecture. As one of the managers on the business intelligence side, I needed to know more about enterprise architecture and because this book just came out and because is less than 200 pages in length :o), I thought I would give it a shot. I’m glad I did because the book goes through how to do enterprise architecture (not just theory) – really good book!
This book contains five sections. The first section is an introduction which explains enterprise architecture, why most organizations have a poor enterprise architecture, and how the authors’ Ready, Set, Go Approach can help. The definitions of the terms “enterprise” and “enterprise architecture” are well-defined and I like that the definitions provided encompass people too (not just data and process).
The next section is on the Ready step. The analogy provided with a city plan is a good one, and the Ready step is all about identifying why an enterprise architecture is needed, who should be involved, what are the risks, etc. It also includes documenting the information and process and systems and their inter-relationships. Business models are explained including the Osterwalder Business Model Canvas (which I know a bit about from another book).
The next section is on the Set step. This step is about identifying stakeholders and target groups, and setting up the environment including organizing the enterprise architects and communicating and tools. A SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis is recommended. Key successful factors are also essential to define.
The next section is on the Go step.
