Pinel clearly presents the fundamentals Biopsychology and makes the topics personally and socially relevant to the reader.
The defining feature of Biopsychology is its unique combination of biopsychological science and personal, reader-oriented discourse. Rather than introducing biopsychology in the usual textbook fashion, it interweaves the fundamentals of the field with clinical case studies, social issues, personal implications, and humorous anecdotes. It tries to be a friendly mentor that speaks directly to the reader, enthusiastically relating recent advances in biopsychological science.

This textbook is absolutely phenomenal. The average student does not at all enjoy reading the assigned texts in a class; this book is a whole different story. It is very well-written, conversational, educational yet easy to understand, and just overall "fun" to read! It's like it was written by an average person who just happens to know a lot about what he's talking about! I've never WANTED to do assigned reading before this course! Thanks Dr. Pinel!

We're using this as a textbook in one of my PhD classes, and this is one of the few textbooks that I have that is written in surprisingly easy language, making everything easily understood. I can say that there are a few concepts that you might need extra help with if you don't have a basic understanding of human biology, genetics, and evolution--though even those topics are relatively well-explained for people who don't have as much experience in those subjects (I would assume). All in all, I would recommend!
